"They PAY me to make little pictures?" Cool.

 

Dorothy Shaw, native to Austin, Texas and graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, has maintained a decades-long professional career in the visual arts. Her background includes founding dotgraphics, a commercial art direction, design, and production studio, as well as illustrating eight picture books and authoring one. Her disciplined visual foundation continues to inform her work as a painter today.

Shaw’s paintings grow from close observation and explore relationships between people, animals, and the emotional currents of everyday life. Built through deliberate composition and restrained gesture, her work unfolds over time, rewarding sustained looking. Her paintings invite reflection and quiet contemplation, allowing meaning to emerge naturally through the viewer’s experience.

What is the color of comfort, the shape of love, the smell of sunshine? Can you the feel a warm hug by seeing an image? Can music crash out  of a piano in waves of passion?
